Majin Buu (Majin Bu meaning, “Demon Man Boo”) also known as Mr. Buu (Misuta Bu meaning “Mister Boo”) is the first in the lineage of Buu in the Dragon Ball series. This character takes various forms, all of which are addressed as “Majin Buu” in the Dragon Ball series. It is believed that this character was inspired by Fuyuto Takeda (Akira Toriyama’s third editor).
The name “Majin Buu” alongside Bibidi and Babidi are believed to have originated from “Biddidi-Bobbidi-Boo” which are the words of the fairy godmother in the 1950 movie “Cinderella”. However, Majin Buu means “chief magical being” in Japanese.
Majin Buu is one of the most powerful characters in the Dragon Ball series. Ironically, he also shows childish and playful traits. This was evident when he revealed that he once destroyed things for fun at the instruction of his master and had to stop when he was told that he was behaving in a wrong manner. He may be a playful character but he displays his evil traits when his eyes broaden and steam shoots out of the openings on his body. This extreme form of anger is mostly witnessed when he starts losing in a battle or when his is laughed at. He enjoys killing enemies without mercy which is believed to be as a result of the fact that he takes everything in life as a game. In battle, Majin Buu uses his size to outflank his opponents as he fights in a bullying manner.
When he was absorbed by Evil Buu, his childish and playful characteristics manifested in Kid Buu and Super Buu respectively. This was evident when Kidd Buu was sleeping at a time when he was needed for battle alongside Goku and Prince Vegeta. Also, during the second battle against Gotenks, Gotenks was preparing hard for battle by organizing the Super Ghosts of his Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack. Meanwhile, Gotenks got informed by Piccolo that Buu has regenerated from the last Super Ghost attack and was lying on his stomach, feasting on soda that looked like a milkshake and reading a magazine, which angered and embarrassed Gotenks.
It was later revealed that he takes delight on causing pains and killing people because he was unaware of the social and moral implications of his actions and he was commanded to behave in such way by Bibidi and Babidi. The presence of The Grand Supreme Kai is however more influential than in Super Buu, who was evil in nature and influenced by the Kai.
